Four promises

  • A craftsman, not a salesperson

The person who prices your floor is the one who sands it. Jüri, who answers the phone, is not a salesperson: he passes your photos and questions to the craftsman. No subcontractors.

  • 25+ years of wooden floors only

Parquet and plank floors. Sanding and finishing, nothing else.

  • Almost dust-free sanding

The dust goes into the bag, not into your home. All our machines collect dust straight into a bag.

  • Free quote from photos

Send photos of your floor and the craftsman works out the price without a separate visit. The quote is free.

Services

Three services the craftsman does himself.

  • Half-sanded parquet: the old lacquer is glossy, the sanded part is light

    Parquet sanding

Herringbone, strip, mosaic and panel parquet. Engineered wood flooring if the wear layer is thick enough.

  • Restored plank floor

    Wood floor sanding

Plank floors, including in old houses. Replacing boards and filling cracks.

  • Freshly oiled parquet, with sanded wood not yet oiled in front

    Lacquering and oiling

Lacquer, oil, colour toning and waxing.

Meelis Reha, floor sanding craftsman

The man who prices your floor is the one who sands it

I'm Meelis Reha. I work out the price myself from the photos you send, and the quote states what the work includes and which products I use.

Jüri answers the phone and handles contact in Finnish and English. He is not a salesperson; he passes your questions to me. I speak Estonian, English and Russian.

I do the work myself. On some jobs I may have a helper with me, but I am always responsible for the finished floor.

I have been sanding wooden floors for more than 25 years, and I recognise careless work straight away: circular marks, edges left darker, or corners the machine didn't reach. I don't leave these faults on a floor I've done. I don't rush: the floor is sanded as many times as needed until the surface is smooth. I do the corners by hand. Before finishing, I check the surface against the light.

You pay the final invoice only once we have checked the floor together.

How it works

Four steps from the first call to a finished floor. The floors of an average home are usually finished in 2–3 working days, lacquering included.

  1. Send photos

Send a few photos of the floor through the form and tell us the area, or call Jüri. The craftsman works out the price from the photos.

  2. Free written quote

You get a written quote stating what the work includes and which product is used. The working days are agreed in advance.

  3. Sanding and finishing

Before starting, the craftsman checks the floor. He sands off the old finish and applies new lacquer or oil. The machines collect the dust straight into a bag, so practically no dust gets into the room.

  4. Handover and payment

You check the floor together with the craftsman. Pay by invoice or in cash on site. The craftsman explains how to care for the floor. The work has a 2-year warranty from the day of handover.

Common questions

How much does floor sanding cost?

Full sanding costs from €36/m², usually around €39/m², lacquer or oil included. The craftsman works out the price from photos, free of charge. The minimum order is €1,000. More on the prices page.

How long does the work take?

Sanding a room of up to 50 m², including the edges of the floor, takes about a day. The floors of an average home are usually finished in 2–3 working days, lacquering included.

Does sanding make a lot of dust?

Very little. The craftsman sands almost dust-free: the machines collect dust straight into a bag, so there is practically no dust in the room. A little fine dust can still rise into the air and settle, for example, on window sills. To stop it spreading to other rooms, it is worth keeping the doors to neighbouring rooms closed during the work.

How many times can parquet be sanded?

One full sanding usually removes about 0.5–1 mm of wood. Strip, mosaic and panel parquet can be sanded repeatedly. With engineered wood flooring, the wear layer decides: roughly one sanding per millimetre, with a little left in reserve.

When can I walk on the floor?

You can walk carefully on a lacquered floor after 6–8 hours and bring back light furniture the next day. Rugs and heavy furniture after about a week. An oiled floor takes up to 24 hours to dry in normal conditions.

Does parquet always need sanding?

Worn lacquered floors are generally not refreshed: new lacquer over old does not look good, so worn lacquer is sanded off completely. Oiled floors should be maintenance-oiled regularly. You get the instructions at handover.

Do I have to pay in advance?

Usually not. You pay on completion, by invoice or in cash on site. In exceptional cases, for example a larger job or specially ordered materials, the craftsman may ask for a prepayment. If so, it is stated in the quote before the work begins.

Do you also work outside Helsinki?

Yes, across Uusimaa. In the capital region (Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen) travel is included in the price; elsewhere in Uusimaa a travel cost of €0.75 per km is added. We do not take jobs outside Uusimaa.

What don't we do?

The craftsman focuses on sanding and finishing wooden floors. We do not do stairs, terraces, window sills, thresholds, shelves, kitchen worktops, painted floors or separate maintenance oiling. If such a job needs doing alongside the floor sanding, you are still welcome to ask our advice.
